The aim of studies in “Information Systems and Management” is to qualify students for tasks related to the planning, implementation, and ongoing management of information systems in organizations. Graduates will be able to analyse business processes and conceptualize supporting information systems. They will also have an understanding how state-of-the-art digital technologies can be utilized for creating innovative business models.

Stages of study / curricula / description of modules

The study programme contains a range of courses from different areas. These include, for instance, an introduction to Information Systems, Statistics, Marketing, Accounting, Innovation Management, Technological Foundations in Computer Science, and Software Engineering. Students can choose between four elective specialisation areas including IT Management, E-Business, Logistics and Computational Finance. They are required to apply their knowledge in student projects in the third year of studies. The studies conclude with a bachelor thesis by which the students show their ability to write an academically rigorous work.

General studies

General Studies account for 10 - 25% of the study programme. These courses train key competences for subsequent career fields. By building their own individual specialities, students are able to shape and amplify their academic profile.

Zum Studium der Wirtschaftsinformatik zählt in hohem Umfang die Auseinandersetzung mit informatischen, statistischen und mathematischen Metho-den. Mangelhafte Vorkenntnisse – insbesondere in Mathematik – führen leider häufig zum Scheitern der Studierenden.
Zum erfolgreichen Start ins Studiums sollten die StudienanfängerInnen über folgende Schlüsselkompetenzen und Neigungen verfügen: Teamfähigkeit, Interesse an wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen und informatischen Inhalten, Affinität gegenüber Computern, Zeitmanagement, Kommunikationsfähigkeit sowie Lernbereitschaft.
